About UISC

Mission & History
The mission of the University of Idaho Sustainability Center is to create an active culture of student responsibility for sustainability on campus and in the community through environmental stewardship, collaboration across disciplines, entrepreneurial innovation, and community service that enhances understanding and utilization of sustainable design and lifestyle.

Funding
The University of Idaho Sustainability Center is funded entirely by students as part of their activity fees paid each semester by Moscow campus students. The initiative was developed by a broad coalition of student volunteers with support from staff, community, faculty, all three student governments (undergraduate ASUI, graduate student GPSA, and law student SBA), residence hall presidents, and many clubs. The fee was recommended unanimously by the Associated Student Fee Committee comprising the ASUI, GPSA, and SBA leadership and endorsed by President White in spring of 2006.

Structure
The UISC has 4 part-time student staff members. UISC hiring, goals and operations are reviewed and assisted by an actively involved Campus-Community Advisory Board with 4 student positions (appointed by ASUI [2], GPSA, and SBA), and 4 positions distributed among faculty, staff, and local community (selected by the UISC staff and student board members), rounded out by the UISC student Director and the full time University of Idaho Sustainability Coordinator.
